Congratulations to our 2021-2022 VanEd Cares Scholarship winner, Karen Balderrama!
Karen won $1,000 to go toward her tuition for her undergraduate degree in education. She is a first-generation student studying at the University of Illinois Chicago. Karen was randomly selected out of over 1,500 applicants for this scholarship.
Karen sent us this message after receiving the news that she was the scholarship winner:
“Hi, my name is Karen. I am a first-generation student. I am an undergrad studying education. I’m glad that I was able to receive this scholarship because it takes me one step closer to my future goals. My goal is to make my parents proud. They never got the chance to chase their future careers for financial reasons. So, I’m here to show them that their sacrifices will finally pay off.”
