New Shoreham Police Hiring Seasonal Police Officers, Interns

NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (AP) — Anyone who has wanted to be a police officer in a vacation paradise now has a chance.

New Shoreham, the town on Block Island, announced this week that it is has opened the hiring process for seasonal officers for the summer, when the island’s population swells with seasonal residents and tourists.

The department is also launching a new paid internship program for college students interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.

The seasonal officers will help year-round police officers to provide public safety and enforce traffic laws on the island, with a focus on moped use and impaired driving, interim Chief Capt. Matthew Moynihan said in a statement.

Seasonal officers must have completed a Rhode Island police academy or an equivalent out-of-state police academy and be current with their certifications.
