Toilet Paper Roll Star Wars Characters Craft

Supplies Needed to Make Set of Star Wars Movie Characters

Directions to Make Set of Star Wars Characters from Toilet Paper Rolls

Step 1

Step 1 - toilet paper roll Star Wars Characters - cut a slit in the end of the craft roll to make it easy to create a top of the head
Let’s get the toilet paper roll ready to be a Star Wars character!

First slit the tops of the toilet or craft rolls as shown to create cardboard flaps that can be folded over to have a top of the head for each of the Star Wars characters.

Step 2

Step 2- toilet paper roll Star Wars Characters - fold over the top cardboard portions - flaps - of the craft tube end
Fold & glue time!

Fold over and glue into position. I use a glue gun for *instant* hold results which makes it easier and faster…and you don’t end up holding it for minutes waiting for the glue to dry!

Step 3

Step 3 - toilet paper roll Star Wars Characters - sketch and get ready to paint
Sketch the details for your Star Wars characters onto the toilet paper roll.

Paint the toilet roll cores with a coat of white paint and allow to dry – if your craft rolls are already white, then skip this step.

Step 4

When the base coat of paint is dry, lightly sketch on the features of your movie characters with a pencil onto the painted craft rolls.

Then just start painting the colorful details of each character…

Chewbacca Character Craft

Star Wars Craft - Chewbacca details - painted Chewbacca toilet paper roll finished craft
Don’t forget Chewbaccas scary sash!

Chewie is a favorite because he is loyal and brave while still a little huggable.  The details that you can paint to give him that obvious Chewbacca look:

  • Hairy exterior – I used scattered brush strokes for this
  • Hair around eyes – in this case, they are almost eye lashes, but give that feeling of hair around the eyes
  • Chewie’s teeth
  • Chewbacca’s distint nose shape
  • Leather sash with metal

Princess Leia Character Craft

Star Wars Craft - Princess Leia - this is how you make the buns on either side of Princess Leias head for hair
Look how easy it is to make Princess Leia’s signature hairstyle!

For Princess Leia’s hair buns I simply glued beads onto each side of her head and painted them the same brown color as I had mixed up for her hair.  I left her with less detail because the hair is so distinctive and just gave her a necklace.

R2D2 Character Craft

Star Wars Crafts shown finished - Chewbacca, Princess Leia and R2D2
Look how fun our favorite Star Wars characters turned out!

For R2D2 the painted details were more about portraying a series of buttons and panels.  When you look at R2D2, you see a white body and blue accents.  Even though my shade of blue is different than the movie character (a little brighter), it is obvious what character it is!

What We Learned Making Star Wars Crafts

Keep painting around the pencil guidelines on each roll and very quickly the kids will end up with a full set of fun characters to act out any wild and wonderful Star Wars scenes across your living room floor!

Use this as a really good way to experiment.  You can see that just a few key details can be enough. Keep going to include C-3PO, Jedi masters and even the ugly Jabba The Hutt!
