How to Use the Earth Calendar Numbers

Oh, there are so many ways to use the Earth number cards in your classroom! Here are just some of the ways the kids and I have enjoyed using them:

  • Use the numbers as part of your traditional or linear classroom calendars. Even if you don’t teach the calendar, they make a great reference point for the kids.
  • Have your students put the number cards in numerical order from 0 to 35.

  • Pair the Earth numbers with a different set of printable numbers (like my spring calendar numbers). You can use them to explore the concept of patterns with the kids.
  • Hide the numbers in an Earth Day sensory bin. Challenge the children to find the numbers in order. Or have the kids find the numbers and write down the numbers they’ve found.
  • Put together an Earth-themed sensory writing tray. Have the kids practice writing numbers, using the Earth calendar numbers as a reference. They can also write on chalkboards or white boards.

  • Let the kids practice one-to-one correspondence by placing the appropriate number of pompoms (or other loose parts) next to each number card.
  • Play a simple Memory-inspired game where the kids have to match two of the same numbers in a grid.

There are so many more ways you can use the Earth calendar numbers. These are just a few ideas to get you started. How would you use them with the children?
