Soaring with Spring Snacks | Organized Classroom

Hey teaching friends!

Today, I just wanted to share an idea that I did for my son’s preschool class for his birthday treat.  I thought it would also be a great idea for an end of the school year celebration too!

It was a huge hit with the teachers and students alike!

Do you have snack time in your class?

With so many schools growing in class sizes, lunchtime can range anywhere from 10:30 am until as late as 2:30 pm or more!

Because of that reason, many teachers are asking students to bring in healthy snacks in order to break up the day a bit and not be hungry at either end of the day.

Depending on what demographic populations you serve, asking students to bring in healthy items (or anything at all) will probably not be feasible.

Can you use a super easy Earth Day Activity for your files?

Silly question, I know.
Yes please!

What are the best foods for healthy classroom snacks?

I personally love using fresh fruit or cut up veggies when possible.  It is simple to store it in a staff lounge fridge and grab it right before snacktime.

Pretzels, popcorn, and crackers are great for non perishable items.

Of course, most teachers will need to stay away from recipes using peanut butter for kids.  It is best, for me anyway, to make options that are no-bake as much as possible.

Every so often, a special sweet treat is a fun change, as long as it’s not an every day event.  Plus, you’ll find adults will randomly “stop by to say hi” on those special days as well – haha!

Steps:

1. Place the washi tape in strips on the top of the clothespins.

I mean, is it really cute if it doesn’t have googly eyes?  I didn’t think so.

Seriously it is that easy and there was no dry time for paint!  That is MY kind of project!

Students will get a kick out of something unique for snack during a brain break.  It lightens the mood and brightens gloomy spring days for sure.

You could even take it a step further and incorporate some learning ideas into snacktime.  It would mesh well with topics about health and nutrition.  Lesson plans that cover butterflies and their life cycle.  Students would write a creative story about butterflies who were made of snacks.  Using the snack crackers and the grapes, ask students to write math story problems – and then trade with a partner to answer the questions.

So many difference ways to integrate food into your daily curriculum – plus the spring theme makes it extra special.

One bonus optional step: Add a cute gift tag! Grab yours below.
