Definitely not. But her famous poem, “I’m Nobody! Who are You?,” is a useful tool to help students consider their own desires for social media fame. In a recent survey, 54 percent of Gen. Z respondents said they’d like to become an influencer. What about your students?

With this report and my own TikTok ventures in mind, I built a lesson using Dickinson’s poem paired with one of my own to help students consider the positive and negative aspects that accompany life in the public eye.

These materials work as a stand-alone lesson, sub plan, or supplement to any American literature or poetry unit.
