Just in time for spring, here is a simple Springtime DIY Sight Word Game that is sure to get your students excited about practicing high-frequency words. It’s simple to make and super inexpensive.
Some Bunny Loves To Read
It’s a simple game of Hide and Seek. Because it is hands-on, students will be super engaged and excited to try and guess where all the carrots are hidden by reading the words to program to the top of the cups.
How to Play:
Program the cups with the words you want students to practice. Place the cups on your playing surface. Decide how many carrots you want to hide and place them under the cups while students turn their bodies and hide their eyes away from the bunny cups.
What You Need:
- Pink ‘Solo-like’ cups from Dollar Tree
- Googly eyes
- Black Sharpie
- Black dry-erase pen
- mini carrot erasers or orange pompoms, jellybeans, buttons . . . whatever you would like to hide
- paper to make ears for your bunny
- white pompoms
- hot glue gun
Putting It Together:
- Create a couple of ears for each bunny. You can simply use a white piece of paper or cardstock.
- Tip your cups upside down and hot glue the ears to the back of your bunny.
- On the same side as the ears, hot glue a pompom for the tail.
- On the front side of the cup, glue 2 googly eyes.
- Under the googly eyes, hot glue a pompom for the nose.
- Use your permanent marker to make your bunny mouth and whiskers.
Write the words you would like your students to practice on the top of the cups. And you know what the best part is? These cups are like dry-erase boards. You can simply wipe them off and write different words on them as needed.
